February 2022 Update

Brother Knights!

I trust everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather his past weekend! It sure felt good to get outside and run around!

It was a busy weekend for the Knights of Columbus in Dallas. Collectively, there were 4 CUF Exemplifications held over the weekend and we welcomed in I believe 12 new families into our order! GK’s, let’s be sure we make these new Brother Knights welcome and get them involved in at least one of your many upcoming events!

We held our Spanish Initiative Meeting at Our Lady of San Juan de los Lago Santa Teresita on Saturday morning. Presentations were prepared by our Team of Nick Flores, Eddie Castillo and Ed Diaz. There were 7 Councils represented and approx. 30 members in attendance including a live special guest presentation by our Worthy State Deputy Alfredo Vela. The meeting was followed by a CUF Exemplification by our Dallas Spanish Degree Team welcoming in 4 new Brother Knights! A great meeting and a terrific exemplification! Thank you all for everything you did!

Yesterday, we held our Diocesan Free Throw Competition. The event was held at Bishop Dunne Catholic High School. The event was directed by our Asst. Diocesan Deputy SK Ed Diaz along with Lady Knight Janie. Thank you both for everything you did to make this event a success. A shout out to Brother Knight Steve Guerrero, Athletic Director at Bishop Dunne and member of Council 12484, who took charge and assured us of a smooth flowing event! Thanks to th e20 some odd brother Knights that came out in support and helped work this event. I am sure that some of us are a little bit sore this morning but the soreness was well worth it!  We had 38 Comp[editors form 10 different Councils throughout the Diocese. The stands were will with parents and siblings of the competitors and their support was evident by the applause each child received upon the completion of the competition. Below are the Winners of each Age Bracket. The winners are eligible to compete in the State Championship to be held at Lopez Middle School in San Antonio on Saturday March 5. I will be reaching out to the families to provide details of the competition.

Brothers, Lent is just around the corner so I am sure that your fryers are prepared and many meals will be served. Please enjoy the Unity and Fraternity opportunities that this time offers as we work for the #1 Principal of our Order, Charity! Please reach out to someone in need and lend of a helping hand. Be sure to ask your Pastor or Chaplain what the Knights of Columbus can do for them. As you perform your work, you are sure to cross someone that is not a member of the order. Invite him to be part of something great!

Thank you all for everything you are doing and will do. Remain safe!

Vivat Jesus,

SK Mike Courtney
