Knights of Columbus – Diocese of Dallas

WGK’s.

I hope this email finds you and yours doing well. Hard to believe that the 1st Quarter of this Fraternal year is coming to a close. Despite 2020 being the strangest year I have ever experienced, it has also flown by. I’m sure many will say it hasn’t flown fast enough! LOL!!

During these extremely difficult times, it is easy to just fold your arms and say you are going to wait and see how this all shakes out. No-one would blame you if you did, I assure you! You may say that until everything is open and we are operating at 100% level, there isn’t much we can do. Maybe 2021 will be better, let’s hope so!

For those of you that know me, I’m more of the glass is half full kind of guy and have a tendency of looking at things through rose colored glasses. I like to look at things as opportunities versus challenge. I try to find the good in most things and not be critical of the bad. That said, I just wanted to take a minute and ask all of you, as Knights of Columbus what are you doing to be of greater service to God and your fellow man? If you attended the DDC meeting in August, you may remember our Former Diocesan Deputy Roy Rabenaldt talk about the need for us to be of service to all. You may also remember our Worthy Chaplain Fr. Joseph talk about the need to reach out to our members and especially the widows of our brother Knights and see if there are any needs that we can do for them. Reach out to your Pastors and ask what does the parish need? Are you doing any of these?

“I believe many people, Knights or not, are looking for direction. They are looking for someone to lead them. Isn’t that what we as members of the Knights of Columbus should do? Shouldn’t we be the leaders?”

I believe many people, Knights or not, are looking for direction. They are looking for someone to lead them. Isn’t that what we as members of the Knights of Columbus should do? Shouldn’t we be the leaders? Are you having a drive thru Tamale Sale like Council 6065. How about a Tailgate Party after the 12:30 Mass like 11862. A drive thru Fish Fry at 5052. Maybe a Meal for the local Healthcare workers at Council 7438 in Greenville.  I know we can’t use the Parish halls to hold our fundraisers, but who is to say we can’t be outside in the parking lot after mass and just saying hello to the parishioners as they are leaving and simply asking is there anything the Knights of Columbus can do for you? Can you not take this time to meet with your Pastor and ask him about hosting a Wheelchair Drive in 2021?

I am sure that many of you are doing things and I thank you for that. I’d like for you to tell me what you are doing.  We are an extremely humble group and do not like to boast about our deeds. I am asking you to Please boast! I want to know what you are doing so we can share the ideas with each other! You simple idea may be just the spark someone else needed to get going!!

It’s pretty easy to be of service when things are good; it’s when things are tough that the real work is needed! It doesn’t get much tougher than right now. We need now the Councils in the Diocese of Dallas to lead the way! I look forward to hearing from many of you with a few success stories!! I thank you and all your council members and their families for everything you have done and will do.

God Bless you and yours,

SK Mike Courtney
